Engagement Session for Bahira and Salih

Engagement session at the Powerhouse

We haven’t photographed a morning session for a long time because in Brisbane, the light in the afteroon is always really beautiful and very reliable. This morning, the light was spectacular and really forced us to get out of our comfor zones and look for different directions.

These look great don’t they?

Vivian and Jun’s Engagement session

Photography by Jenny

Words by Vivian and Jenny

Vivian -    “Jun and I first met at University of Queensland when we were in our second year of engineering. We rarely talked to each other as we were in different circles of friends. However, after we graduated, we have seen each other more often through friend’s gatherings. Since then, we knew each other better. He is a talkative and funny person with a great sense of humour. I enjoyed chatting with him. My feelings towards him developed slowly ever since.

After 3 years of dating, Jun decided to pop the question on 11 December 2010. He texted me to dress up nicely for the dinner but did not tell me where we were going. At that moment, I had a feeling that he was probably going to propose to me as he had already picked up the engagement ring. How did I find out?! That’s because he asked me to pick the ring I wanted few months ago. That night, we went to the fine dining seafood restaurant, Gambaro. The atmosphere at the restaurant was romantic under the candle light. Jun was heading towards to the toilet’s direction when we were waiting for dessert. Finally, the chocolate tart arrived and I saw the ring sparkling on the top of the tart. Jun held my hands and asked me, ‘ Will you marry me?’ I was very delighted and said yes. He put the ring on my finger and the waitress came and congratulated us. I smiled all night and could not stop looking at the ring. It was a wonderful feeling.”

Jenny  -    I met Vivian and Jun at Newfarm Park for their engagement portrait session.  This is a very popular location to use as you can get so many different looks and feels to the photos.  You have the park (and EVERYONE loves the rose gardens), the river is a great backdrop and of course you have the Powerhouse right there too.

Vivian and Jun were really excited about the photo shoot (well maybe Vivian was a little bit more excited than Jun).  This was exciting for Vivian to be able to wear the most incredible shoes!  I think everyone will agree that they are super cute and of course very appropriate too!  They are worth the effort Vivian went to to get them………

“After getting engaged, I started checking out bridal magazines and websites to look for my wedding gown. One day, I found a picture of a model wearing a lovely wedding dress with a very unique pair of wedding shoes which instantly grabbed my attention. I knew straight-away that Melissa Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon is the wedding shoes I want. I like it because of the big red heart – a symbol of love. Surely, it will stand out in the wedding picture. So, I went to all Brisbane stores who stocked these shoes and finally I found them at Fortitude Valley  …YEAH! I felt very lucky because it was the last pair and I like the colour! How awesome is that!!! It is meant to be:). I was super happy that day!”

Vivian and Jun will be getting married at UQ’s Alumni Court on the 5th of May.  It will be great for them to head back to where it all began and to also celebrate their 5th anniversary as couple.

Another decision Vivian has to make before the big day is whether or not she should wear her glasses on their wedding day.  We took some photos with and without so please vote in your comments to help her make the decision!

Chevaun and Nathan’s engagement session

Engagement shoot by Jenny

TWK Studio

Chevaun was a bridesmaid at Tenille & Stuart’s wedding in 2010.  It was fantastic to hear through Tenille that Chevaun was now engaged and even more of a thrill to hear that I would get to photograph her as a bride too.  I am so happy that Chevaun has met someone like Nathan.  They make a great couple after meeting through mutual friends.  They had known each other a while but the timing hadn’t been quite right until now.  This kind of special love is certainly meant to be and very much worth the wait.

Chevaun and Nathan have already started to expand their family with the addition of little Charli.  It was really sweet to be able to include Charli in their engagement portrait shoot as you can certainly tell how much this little white ball of cuteness is loved.  Why not include the children in the shoot?

I can’t wait to photograph Chevaun and Nathan’s wedding on the gold coast on the 1st of April.  They have chosen Oscars at Burleigh for the ceremony and the amazing Palazzo Versace for their reception.  I know what a stunning bridesmaid Chevaun was so I can’t even begin to imagine what an incredibly beautiful bride she will be.  You are a lucky man Nathan and I know that you know that.  I can tell because you couldn’t stop kissing her the whole time we were doing the shoot!  Can’t wait for the wedding!engagement photo by TWK StudioEngagement byu TWK Studio

Sara and Tim had some fun

 Photography by Jenny, TWK Studio

Words by Jenny

Sara’s story………….

“We met back in September 2009 when mutual friends decided we’d be perfect for each other. As it turned out they couldn’t have been more right! After the ‘set up’, Tim treated me to our official first date and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We are so excited about our wedding and we can’t wait to be our own little family of Mr and Mrs Moore.”

I met Sara at our stand at the Your Local Wedding Guide Expo in January last year at the Sofitel.  It was wonderful to chat with her about her wedding plans for October this year.  Sara came in to the gallery to see a bit more of what we did and was really impressed with our services and the finished products.  TWK Studio were the only photographers that she actually met with, but her fiancée Tim reassured her that if she felt comfortable with the decision there wasn’t a need to visit anyone else.

Sara and Tim’s engagement portrait shoot was the first time I had met Tim.  I knew he had to be a top bloke to have scored a girl like Sara and I was right.  He is sweet and funny and the two of them are very much in love……that was obvious.  They have so much fun together too.

A few of their friends had even asked them how Tim would go trying to be serious and behave on something as official as an engagement portrait.  I told Tim that I would be disappointed if he couldn’t be himself for the photos.  One of the reasons for the portrait shoot is for us to get to know each other so that as individuals, and as a couple, they feel comfortable enough around me to be themselves and have fun.  That’s what then shows in the photos and I want their friends and family to look at the images and say that I have captured them perfectly.

I think everyone will agree that it looks like Sara & Tim had some fun.

Family Portrait Session Gareth and Jenny

Krista found  a little spot very close to the city that gives the look and feel of being somewhere out in the country , or next to a creek, or somewhere except where it is. When you’ve got a couple of kids and /or grandkids, it’s always in the back of your mind to keep an eye out for suitable locations. The Oxley common was a great spot but since the January 2011 floods, that area is still devastated. The council probably has more important places to fix.

We always keep our eyes open and it doesn’t take a lot of time to pull over and explore interesting spots. Some of them open up only once you get just 50 metres from the parking area and then it’s wonderland . Next week we are going to check out a field of grass  only about 10 minutes south of the city. Looks promising.

TWK Studio photographed Gareth and Jen’s wedding a few years ago and isn’t it nice when people keep in touch and share the family with you. Krista was the photographer, and she took the family photos this time as well.

Amy and Chris are getting married on the 18th of August 2012, and they are also having a reception in England later on after their wedding day.

Krista is photographing their wedding and after a couple of planning sessions, she was able to work out a time to catch Amy and Chris together as theirs is a bit of a long distance romance.

All of us here at TWK Studio  are looking forward to their wedding date because they are just a really really lovely couple and it gives us great pleasure to be able to share their day with them.

Erin & Ryan’s Wedding at the Byron Bay Surf Club

Erin & Ryan’s Wedding at the Byron Bay Surf Club

Photos by Jenny, TWK Studio

words by Thaddeus.

1st of October 2011. A memorable day for more than one reason and memorable it was. How is this for a text conversation between me and Jenny on the morning of the wedding.

This is text from my iPhone.

Me: Have a good shoot today

Jen:  It’s raining.

Me: It’s Byron Bay. The rain comes and goes. It’ll be fine in a couple of  hours.

Then  five minutes later I get a phone call. It’s Jen, and the conversation goes like this.

Jen: Hear that?

Me: Hear what?

Jen: That sound ?

Me: What sound?

Jen:  Now it HAILING!!!!!!!!

Me: It’s Byron Bay. The rain comes and goes. It’ll be fine in a couple of  hours.

Thankfully the rain did pass,  but not the beautiful thick dark clouds that circle on a stormy day and add to the mood of an absolutely fantastic part of Australia.  It also shows that Jenny really cares about the Bride and Grooms she photographs  and really cares that she do the best job possible under all circumstances. A total professional in every sense of the word who has photographed hundred of weddings.  Remember a wedding day is one day, one chance.

I love weddings at Byron Bay and if it was at all possible, I don’t think I would mind at all having a wedding to shoot there  every day of the week. Especially with a stormy sky. In fact I can only ever remember one wedding in my whole life that I shot at Byron Bay without a storm on the wedding day.

Erin’s choice to get ready was the Beach Suites at Byron which is close to all the venues for the day while Ryan and the guys were at the Bay View Apartments.

Ceremony at the Byron Bay Surf Club, a real Byron Bay icon.

Location photography was at Wattago Beach and Ewingsdale.  That is one fantastic place. The Camphor Laurel trees lining the road must be quite a few hundred years old . The are just HUGE.. … and the beautiful gentle aroma of the camphor laurel on a warm day is just so soothing.  A beautiful place to hold a wedding ceremony,  which a few of our brides have done.  I love the touch of the old Volkswagen Van Rein & Ryan used a wedding car. Called the LUVBUG and available for hire. Cute. Very, very cute. The dark sky with a bit of sunlight peeking through really adds to the photos.

Reception was back at the Byron Bay Surf Club.

Erin and Ryan’s Wedding was also  featured  in the Byron Bay Weddings site where ther are a few more beach shots including a beautiful one after sunset.

Rebecca & Duncan’s wedding at St Agatha’s, Clayfield

Photography by Krista

Assisted by Angela

Want to know more?  Click here.

Rebecca and Duncan. What can someone say? Traditional Scottish mixed in with Middle Eastern customs all added to the joy of sharing their wedding day with family and friends. Isn’t that what’s it all about? Makes for a crazy day.

Wasn’t Rebecca’s dress just beautiful? It  flowed around her like a breath of air and the colour was simply stunning. The Bride prepared at Mt Ommaney and notice the crowd that greeted her when she came down the stairs. That is when the dancing started, that early in the day. Makes you want to be there and join in doesn’t it?

Duncan and the boys got together at Ascot not too far away from the church. With the pageboys in tow they arrived at St Agatha’s to be greeted by Scottish bagpipes and the guests. Rebecca arrived shortly after to join him and you can see the look of expectation as Rebecca and her dad are coming up the stairs and walking down the aisle. She was probably thinking, “what has Duncan done now?” Ceremony was conducted by Adrian Farrely.

St Agatha’s Church at Clayfield has an almost century old history. The foundation stone was placed in position by Archbishop Duhig on 11 August 1918 and the building was  opened  on 20 September, 1918. Quite a picturesque little church and an intimate spot to hold a wedding. I mentioned Scottish traditional mixed with Middle Eastern customs? Keep an eye out for the sporran.

Brisbane has a beautiful array of different places to use as ever changing backdrops  for a Bride and Groom.  A vine covered gate, a red door, arches at the GPO , hand hewn stonework buildings  and of course the beautiful early evening sky with subtle colours that just make you smile. It all adds up to beautiful photographs. Krista did a great job.

Reception was held at the Strand, one of Brisbane’s most picturesque locations to hold a wedding function. TWK Studio photographs a lot of wedding receptions at the Strand and once again it lived up to its’ reputation. Duncan and Rebecca were greeted by drums as they entered the reception and then immediately surrounded by their guests with singing and dancing. Makes you want to get married, doesn’t it?

Here is a quote from Rebecca herself…..” Krista was very easy going and fun to work with. Not pushy like some I have run across. Her patient guidance and her ability to capture that special moment made the whole day very easy for us. I would recommend TWK Studio to anybody who wants great service and great wedding photography. Krista’s photos are amazing and Thaddeus went out of his way to help me design the wedding album I adore. It really tells the whole story of my wedding day perfectly.”

Leanne Creighton and Craig Morgan’s wedding at St. Joseph’s Kangaroo point.

Photography by Thaddeus

Assisted by Krys and Kylie

Want to know more?  Click here.

Leanne and Craig had an absolutely perfect day weather wise  to hold a wedding . The day was sunny without being too bright and the afternoon light was just fantastic. A warm day, a little breeze and once again Brisbane lives up to the reputation of perfect spring weather.

We had a visiting photographer from America  join us for their wedding, a young lady from California who arrived the day before to spend a couple of months as an “intern” as they call it over there. Kylie’s intention was to build on the education she received in college and see how a studio in the real world operates. The  problem was that after flying in the day before she started to physically fade from the jet lag at the end of the afternoon. I think she then slept straight through the next two days.

Leanne’s choice of hotel to get ready in was the Marriott at the bottom end of Queen Street .This is a very popular location for Brides not only for Receptions but also as a preparation venue and it never fails to live up to its’ reputation. Belinda her bridesmaid could have been called the bridesmaid from heaven. Took her job seriously.

Craig, and his groomsman Trent used the couples unit in Vulture Street to get ready as it was a great location and very close to the church. The river views from their balcony are awesome.

St Joseph’s at Kangaroo Point is a little church tucked away on River Terrace and  was founded by Mary MacKillop in 1870. It is one of the oldest Primary Schools in the Brisbane Catholic Education System. In the 1960′s the boys from St Laurence’s College in South were marched from the school, which is near the Mater Hospital, to St Joseph’s to hold school services, a pretty solid hike.

The wedding ceremony at St, Joseph’s was overseen by Deacon Russ Nelson and when Leanne was walking down the aisle it was touching to see the emotion on Craig’s face. It really is a nice church to hold a wedding ceremony and I am surprised there are not more weddings there. When Leanne and Craig were finally able to get away from their guests they had their photos taken at locations showing the diversity of Brisbane’s scenic backgrounds.

Reception was held at the Strand, one of Brisbane’s most picturesque locations to hold a wedding function. TWK Studio photographs a lot of wedding receptions at the Strand and I can truthfully say that we haven’t run across one bride who wasn’t totally pleased.

Jade and Matt’s wedding at Byron Bay

Shoes: Mollini

Celebrant: Clarah Luxford

Reception Venue: Byron Bay Surf Club

Suits: Roger David

Wedding Rings: Cool Diamonds, Michael Hill

Hair: Erinn Simpkins

Makeup: Allyson Duncan

Jade works for TWK Studio and has been a member of the team for a few years. One day she rocks up and announces, “Matt asked me to marry him and I said yes.”

The place they picked for the ceremony is just outside of Byron Bay and is simply beautiful. The huge Camphor Laurel trees were a perfect backdrop for the bridal party and the whole scene really took your breath away. The wedding day was picked and because Saturdays are always busy for all of us, it was a Friday, the 23rd of September 2011.
